We have a dedicated Environmental Services Department who have set out the following guiding principles as part of our environmental policy:
- Reduce our emissions of green house gases
- Reduce our energy consumption and increase our use of energy from renewable sources
- Increase our use of harvested and recycled water
- Reduce our waste to landfill
- Reduce our use of paper
- Increase our recycling of plastic and cardboard
Our internal Environmental Management System has been formally recognised by the Institute for Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), and as a result we have been ISO 14001 certified. We are independently audited annually by SGS, and conduct internal audits on a regular basis.
As well as consistently increasing the amount of recycled packaging in circulation, 3663 employs a rigorous internal recycling strategy. We are always on the lookout for ways in which we can reduce the amount of resources we waste.
We have also recycled 1378 tonnes of cardboard and plastic and continue to ensure that our printed catalogues have as little impact on the environment as possible with the paper and ink we use.
Through the maintenance of our buildings and the development of new sites, we regularly implement new technologies to reduce our energy consumption. These initiatives, including rainwater harvesting, using sunlight to light some of our buildings rather than electric lights and heat recovery from refrigeration plants have given us an 8% reduction in energy use. In addition to all this, 95% of the electricity used to power our business is now from renewable resources.
